Angelos Tsarouchas, Athens

MG Plus

Commerce is a tradition in the Tsarouchas family. From a young age, Giorgos, Thodoris, Angelos, and Nikos—the four siblings—helped in their father's warehouse, who since 1970 was involved in the wholesale of workwear.

In 1989, the four siblings decided to leave wholesale and open their own retail store with branded youth clothing on the busiest and most central street of Athens, Ifaistou Street. The store immediately became a flagship for the area, standing out for its modern setup. It was one of the first stores of its time to adopt brand corners and helped the commercial development and reputation of the area. Eleven years later, in 2000, Angelos and his brothers opened the second MG Plus store in the same area, which was ten times the size of the first.

All these years, they have managed to build a huge clientele and a very good relationship of trust with people. At the same time, the tourist significance of their stores' location brought them even more customers.

When the pandemic started, commercial activity and travel within and outside the country stopped, resulting in their two stores being completely closed.

"Hard work, the continuous effort to build relationships with customers, and our dedication to procurement absorbed all our daily routine, so we had left online commerce in second place. When lockdown came, it found us completely unprepared," says Angelos.

He adds, "Covid-19 brought the change. Then we realized that at any moment you can be exposed, but also how much an online presence can offer you. That was the moment we started taking online more seriously."

After extensive research, in February 2021, Angelos decided to start selling their goods online through Skroutz. Although they also started their own e-shop, he chose to join Skroutz Marketplace as a partner without an e-shop, as he saw that it provided easy and quick solutions to many procedural issues with orders.

"Everything happened in record time. The people at Skroutz helped us a lot," Angelos notes.

"In the morning I registered, in the afternoon I started uploading products to the platform. We immediately received 4 orders!"

He adds, "That's when we started to realize how much easier it was to sell online through Skroutz."

"We did almost nothing. Accept order, print voucher, pack. The courier came, we handed them over, and that was it. It was very easy for us."

Through Skroutz, Angelos managed to increase their customer base, make people aware of their stores and products, and compare their prices with competitors. At the same time, it was also an easy way for them to monitor their inventory.

"Since we joined Skroutz, the phones haven't stopped ringing. It was like advertising for us. People saw our products on Skroutz and came to our physical stores to shop." , says Angelos.

Today, Angelos has uploaded over 2,500 products to skroutz.gr and online sales account for 25% of their total daily sales. His goal is to continue increasing their sales through Skroutz, so that in the future it will become their third store and further establish their overall online presence.
